The City of Worthington is seeking one to two public administration/public policy graduate students for a summer internship. Individuals who have just completed a Master’s Degree are also eligible to be considered.
The ongoing demands on City staff’s time result in an everpresent list of new initiatives to be researched and evaluated. Interns will be assigned items and asked to conduct policy analysis and/or develop program recommendations.
A high priority of the City Council for 2020 is a community visioning process with extensive community engagement about preferences for the future of Worthington. City Council has identified a number of other priorities, including an Age Friendly initiative to look at ways Worthington can be welcoming and supportive of older adults and the potential creation of a Joint Recreation District in conjunction with the Worthington School District to provide funding for needed improvements to the indoor and outdoor pools operated by a not-for-profit organization. Interns will be engaged in City Council priorities such as these and assist City staff with development and implementation of strategies to support the priorities.
In addition to these initiatives, interns will be exposed to each of the City’s departments and service areas. They will perform professional administrative work, and attend and participate in various organizational meetings.
Ideal candidates will have a general knowledge of municipal government, understand principles related to public administration, be able to work independently and in groups, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to handle multiple demands and competing priorities.
The deadline to apply is March 20, 2020. Follow the link for information about how to apply.
