Bicentennial Calendar
The following Signature Events and Recognized Bicentennial Activities are scheduled for 2003:
Griswold House Tours:
House tours and other activities featuring the historic Griswold House, which was recently moved and renovated. Tours are currently scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. This project includes participation from the Owens Construction, the Worthington Historical Society, Partners for Citizenship and Character and the City of Worthington. Proceeds will benefit PCC and other local non-profit organizations. Click here for more information or call Debbie Sawyer with Partners for Citizenship and Character at 883-3085.
Veterans Memorial Project:
The Worthington Youth Service Council has developed the Veterans Memorial Project to recognize and honor individuals from Worthington who have been killed in military action. Students have prepared one page framed profiles for each of the 34 men killed, which describe the lives and sacrifice of each veteran. The project also includes a painting with images representing the locations of all the wars and military incidents in which the veterans were killed. The Veterans Memorial Project reflects the values and history of our community by honoring those who lost their lives for our country. The display is traveling around to Worthington school buildings. For more information, call Jan Elliot at 888-1774.
Worthington Bicentennial Legacy Quilt: The Worthington Bicentennial Legacy Quilt Committee has presented a 25 block quilt to the City of Worthington that visually describes the Worthington community of today; signatures of community residents and leaders are included between the blocks. Plans are being made to hang the quilt in locations throughout the community. For more information, contact Karla Zadnik at 614-292-6603 or 614-785-0798
The Worthington Bicentennial Singers:
Sharing the love of community and music, the Worthington Bicentennial Singers is a choral group that is performing at a number of Bicentennial events and other community gatherings. The chorus was founded with the goals of exploring the music of Worthington's 200 year history. The singers, dressed in period costumes, are volunteering their time to foster the spirit of celebration in the arts and history as we celebrate Worthington's Bicentennial. For more information, contact Lee Ann Parsons at 614-888-7559.
