Homecoming Celebration - July 4 & 5
Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions:
The July 4th fireworks have been canceled due to the threat of severe thunderstorms. The fireworks on Saturday, July 5th will take place as scheduled at 10:03 p.m.
FIREWORKS -- FAMILY FUN ZONE -- OX ROAST -- ENTERTAINMENT
- There are FIREWORKS scheduled Saturday, July 5th beginning at 10:03 p.m. This time was chosen to mark the date that Worthington's founders arrived, October 1803 -- or 10/03.
- All Family Fun Zone activities and Entertainment, including headliner Maureen McGovern, are FREE!
- The charge for food at the Ox Roast is $7.50 per meal which includes either BBQ beef or pork, a side dish (cole slaw or potato salad,) chips and a drink. A fish and chips meal can also be purchased for $7.50. All the items are also available a la carte.
- A "Pioneer" kids meal is available for $3.50. This includes a hot dog, chips and a drink.
- The Ox Roast will take place from 4pm - 8pm on Friday, July 4th and 1pm - 8pm on Saturday, July 5th. Although the scheduled start time for Saturday is 1:00 p.m., the Ox Roast is expected to be ready for customers as early as 11:30 or 12:00, at the conclusion of the parade.
- The Family Fun Zone includes Super Games such as rock wall climbing and a moon walk bounce, face painting, story telling, arts & crafts, zoo animals, a mock election (should Dublin Granville Road be changed to Bicentennial Avenue for the celebration?) and much more. All activities are FREE!
- In case of rain, the Ox Roast and Family Fun Zone activities will take place inside Thomas Worthington High School.
- In case of rain, the entertainment at the Thomas Worthington High School Stadium will take place as scheduled outside -- RAIN OR SHINE.
- You may want to bring an umbrella or poncho in case of rain.
- Limited seating is available in the stadium stands for the entertainment. The remaining seating is lawn seating on the football field. THERE ARE NO LAWN CHAIRS ALLOWED ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD. Please bring a blanket to sit on for the stadium entertainment.
- On Friday and Saturday, event staff will be wearing red t-shirts and hats with the Bicentennial logo. They will be available during the parade and in all the activity and entertainment areas. Information booths will be set up in the area near the Ox Roast and Family Fun Zone and outside the stadium. In addition, the information booth at the Family Fun Zone will be selling Bicentennial logo merchandise.

HOMECOMING PARADE & WAGON TRAIN
- On Saturday, July 5th, the Homecoming Parade starts at 10:03 a.m. and will be fully formed by High Street and North Street. This is the corner by the Diary Queen just south of the Fire Station.
- The parade will travel south on High Street to Dublin Granville Road. It will turn west on Dublin Granville Road and proceed to the High School.
- The Wagon Train is leading the Homecoming Parade. Governor Bob Taft and Ohio's First Lady Hope Taft will ride in the lead wagon to kick off the parade.
- Upon completion of the parade, the Wagon Train will pull into the front circular drive at the high school. The wagons and mules will be on display throughout the early part of the afternoon for visitors to get an up-close look. The Wagon Train staff will also be on hand to answer questions. The Wagon Train will be in this location until approximately 3:00 p.m., when it will pull out of the parking area and continue on its cross-state journey.
- The Wagon Train will proceed to the Ohio School for the Blind where it will set up camp for the evening. Other activities are scheduled at this location. For more information on the route and scheduled activities click here.
ROAD CLOSURES AND PARKING
- On Saturday, July 5th, the following roads will close at 9:30 a.m. and remain closed throughout the duration of the parade.
1. High Street between Wilson Bridge Road and Dublin Granville Road 2. Dublin Granville Road between High Street and Rt. 315 3. Worthington Galena Road between Schrock Road and High Street.
- Detours will be posted.
- Car pool and come early to avoid traffic congestion.
- Parking at Thomas Worthington High School is primarily limited to performers and patrons. Please make plans to park elsewhere and walk to the parade and high school locations. Some spaces in the high school lot may be made available to the public after 9:00 p.m. before the start of the fireworks.
- A drop off zone is set up in front of the swimming pool. Drivers can enter on Seabury Drive and circle to the north of the SwimInc. pool. Passengers can be dropped off here and then the driver can find appropriate parking. Parking is available within walking distance at a number of business parking lots on High Street north of Dublin Granville Road, the Worthington United Methodist Church, the City lot to the west of the downtown business district and on many surrounding streets. Some streets are posted no-parking. Please obey all posted no-parking notices.
- SwimInc. swimming pool is open Friday, July 4th and Saturday, July 5th for its regularly scheduled hours. Parking for SwimInc. patrons is available in the parking spaces located in the first few rows closest to the pool.
