Education... with Jerry Sue Thornton
May 1, 2003 -- 7:30 p.m.

Dynamic."... "A powerful force."... "Engaging." These words describe Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton, President of Cuyahoga Community College, the largest community college in Ohio. Dr. Thornton is dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible and affordable educational opportunities that promote individual development and improve the overall quality of life in a multicultural community. "It's a ministry for me. It's a passion... It's a commitment," says Dr. Thornton.

Dr. Thornton has spearheaded many innovative programs to encourage more students to pursue a college education. She has developed partnerships with local high schools and is also credited with positioning Cuyahoga Community College to react quickly to changes in the economy, providing workforce training to retrain workers who have lost their jobs and supporting new business initiatives in the community.  Thornton is described as a leader in national and state community college circles.

Her "just folks" style will delight you and her enthusiasm, foresight and passion will inspire you.
