Wilson Bridge Road Planning Project

The City of Worthington began working with the Bird Houk Collaborative to study the E. Wilson Bridge Road corridor.  As a result of the meetings held with residents neighboring the E. Wilson Bridge Road study area, and the preliminary results of the market study, the Steering Committee for the project is recommending the project scope be widened to look at commercial and residential development for all of Wilson Bridge Rd. The goal is to put together a vision for East and West Wilson Bridge Road to ensure the future viability of the entire corridor.

Discussion of the E. Wilson Bridge Rd. study will not take place during the January 14, 2010 Municipal Planning Commission meeting. Please contact Lynda Bitar at 854-7172 or e-mail bitar@ci.worthington.oh.us with any questions.

Why is this project being considered?

There have been times in the past when private parties have expressed interest in redevelopment of this area and the City wants to initiate a dialog about future possibilities in an effort to be able to ensure that any future redevelopment is high quality and meets the community’s expectations.

back

What is the current status of the project and what process will be followed?

A Steering Committee was formed and began meeting in November to discuss how the project will be conducted.  Many facets of this planning study began, including an analysis of the type of development the market could support and conversations with the property owners and residents along the south side of E.Wilson Bridge Road, the residents that live adjacent to the study area, the businesses to the north and the community as a whole.  After receiving the preliminary results of the market study, and hearing the concerns of neighbors of the study area, the Steering Committee is recommending the consultant and the community address development for the entirety of Wilson Bridge Rd.  The next public meeting is anticipated to take place in late February or early March.

back

Who is on the Steering Committee?

The Steering Committee is made up residents and property owners of the study and adjacent areas; members of Worthington City Council, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Municipal Planning Commission and staff; and the Bird Houk Collaborative consulting team.

How will the property be redeveloped?

If the study shows redevelopment to be the best option, the City will market the area to potential developers and property owners.  The City does not intend to acquire or purchase any land at this time.
