Sharon Township includes unincorporated township areas, the Village of Riverlea and the City of Worthington. The population of of the unincorporated areas of the township is approximately 2,100 residents with about 850 homes. Portions of the township are in the Worthington School District and Columbus School District.
Sharon Township has three trustees, serving four-year terms, and a clerk, also elected for four years. The trustees meet twice a month at the Sharon Memorial Hall, 137 E. Dublin-Granville Road. The first meeting of the month is held at 5 p.m. on the first Wednesday. The second meeting is held at 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month.
Sharon Township does not have a separate zoning board. All of these matters are handled through Franklin County. The township trustees make use of legal counsel through the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, and all cases involving township police are handled through the county courts.
The township provides police protection and road maintenance services directly to its residents. The township contracts with the City of Worthington for fire and emergency medical services. The police department provides 24-hour protection through five full-time personnel and eight to 11 part-time officers. The road department has three full-time personnel and a road superintendent who is also responsible for the operations of Walnut Grove Cemetery. The responsibility of the cemetery is shared by the township and the City of Worthington. Each appoints a representative to serve on the Walnut Grove Cemetery Board and jointly name a community member to serve on the board.
The township trustees also appoint the board which oversees Sharon Memorial Hall.
