September 13, 2016 Project Update

Preliminary plans have been submitted for the development of a medical office and emergency department on the High Street frontage currently zoned for commercial office use. The project will consist of a two-story, 20,000 square foot, state-of-the-art medical facility. This new facility will house an emergency department on the first floor and medical offices on the second floor. The existing two-story, 25,000 square foot, United Methodist facility located immediately north of Wesley Boulevard will remain. Site parking will be repositioned to accommodate the United Methodist facility as well as the proposed OhioHealth building.

The proposal will be discussed at the September 22, 2016 Municipal Planning Commission/Architectural Review Board meeting. The meeting begins at 7pm at the Worthington Municipal Building, 6550 N. High Street.

This is an informational presentation. The item is expected to be tabled for more discussion at a future meeting.

Future Planning

The City of Worthington is working with UMCH on site planning and other aspects of this development. While the concept of developing the entire property as a whole was preferable, the City is confident this redevelopment can be consistent with the Comprehensive Plan and carefully planned so it can be developed cohesively over time.

The UMCH site is critically important to the community. It is a positive step that a portion of this project is moving forward and that we have the opportunity to enhance access to medical services and bring additional jobs into Worthington.
