Worthington Division of Police
Patrol Operations Bureau
The Patrol Bureau is the largest and most visible component of the Worthington Division of Police. The bureau is made up of 25 full-time police officers that provide exemplary service to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. These officers are the first to respond to emergency 911 calls, traffic collisions, crimes in progress and general police requests for services.
It is the Patrol Bureau’s mission to provide the finest quality of police services possible and to protect and serve the community. Every member of the Patrol Bureau is critical to the overall success of the Agency and they work hard to proactively reduce the public’s fear of crime, identify and eradicate circumstances that nurture criminal activity, and improve conditions that have a detrimental effect upon public safety in the City of Worthington.
Incorporated in the Patrol Bureau are the following programs:
Community Services Officer
The Community Services Officer (CSO) is a position dedicated to improving and addressing community issues as they relate to public safety within the City of Worthington. The CSO serves as the agency’s liaison with all schools within the City of Worthington and works with the criminal investigative unit in addressing juvenile related crime issues. The CSO also coordinates crime prevention efforts with residents and the business community. As part of the CSO’s community responsibilities, the following services are also available:
· Group Tours: The Worthington Division of Police, located at 6555 Worthington-Galena Road, is a perfect tour site for members of the community to learn about law enforcement and the services that we provide.
· Security Surveys: The CSO will visit homes and businesses and provide tips on how to better secure your home or business. The officer will walk through your home/business checking items such as window & door locks and security systems. They will also make recommendations regarding lighting, landscaping and other crime prevention efforts that could help deter a criminal.
· Speaker Services: The CSO will coordinate to provide complimentary speakers on a variety of law enforcement topics including personal safety, home security and legal issues.
Officer Tammy Floyd is the Community Services Officer and can be reached to schedule any of the above service or to discuss a public safety issue that you may have. Officer Floyd can be reached at (614) 436-8634 or e-mail: tfloyd@ci.worthington.oh.us
Uniformed Investigator
The uniformed investigator position allows for more detailed follow-up on cases of misdemeanor crime as well as providing an extra community resource for special projects. Many reported criminal incidents are minor in nature and we realize are very aggravating to the victim. The heavy case load of felonious crimes handled by the agency’s investigative unit doesn’t allow the detectives to dedicate the necessary attention or time to these minor crimes. This program, dedicated to community service and quality of life issues, allows the agency to respond more quickly to minor crime and to address reoccurring crime trends within our community.
Traffic Safety Program
This program is available when residents observe and report continual traffic problem areas. Officers will monitor the location for a period of time to determine a course of action to address the problem area. A speed monitoring trailer may be used to make motorist aware of their speed and the legal speed limit in the area. This speed trailer can also be used to monitor and record traffic patterns through out the City to aid law enforcement in identifying traffic-related problems.
If you perceive a traffic safety problem occurring within your neighborhood or business district, please contact the agency at (614) 885-4463 and ask to speak to the on-duty patrol supervisor.
Vacation House Watch
The Division of Police offers the residents of Worthington a Vacation House Watch Program. Residents may contact the agency prior to a vacation or business trip and request that a patrol car make periodic checks of their home while they are away. Simply contact the Division of Police at (614) 885-4463 prior to your departure and request a vacation house check. You can also fill out the Vacation House Watch form and fax it to the Division of Police at (614) 885-6833.
When making vacation plans, or any time that your home will be unoccupied for a period of time, remember to arrange to have music and lights turned on by timers at varying times while you're away. Have grass cut in summer, snow shoveled in winter, and mail & newspapers picked up or cancelled so that it's not obvious that no one is at home.
Remember, even with the police watching your home, good neighbors are the best defense against criminal activity. Get to know your neighbors and watch out for each other!
NOTE: We do request that upon your return home that you notify us so that the house watch can be cancelled. You can do this by calling the Communication Center at (614) 885-4463 as soon as you return home.
