City Building and Service Closures

The City of Worthington has reopened limited City offices to the public, based on guidance from public health experts and State of Ohio and U.S. government directives. Plans for further reopenings will are being developed and will be refined as the situation evolves based on health advice and best practice guidelines.

Even as some locations begin to reopen, we still encourage you to conduct business with the City virtually whenever possible by calling, emailing, or on the City website at

Safety measures in all locations include:

  • People who are experiencing any coronavirus symptoms must not enter the building and should contact their healthcare provider.
  • All members of the public are strongly advised to wear a mask or face covering when entering the building and interacting with employees.
  • Employees are required to wear masks or face coverings according to state guidelines.
  • Expanded cleaning will be conducted, with all high touch surface areas being cleaned at least twice daily.
  • Plexiglass barriers are installed at public counters.
  • Visitors are asked to use hand sanitizer upon entering the building. Hand sanitizer stations are available.
  • All lobbies will have marked indicators for safe social distancing in public areas.
  • Signage will inform and instruct the public on safety precautions in place at each location.

The following conditions are in effect beginning May 11 and until further notice. There is no timeline for when we might transition to higher staffing levels in City facilities. Any subsequent decisions and changes in operations will be made according to the changing situation and public health guidelines.

Reopening Updates

The lobbies of the Municipal Building, Planning & Building, and Service & Engineering are open to the public during regular business hours, which vary by location. Some operations may require appointments, while others may allow for walk-in traffic. A limited number of employees who interact with the public have returned to the office. Most employees will continue working from home.  See detailed information by location and department about conducting business both in person and virtually.

11/20/2020 Program Update

Due to the severe risk of COVID-19 in our community and the Franklin County and Columbus Public Health Stay-at-Home Advisory that goes into effect at 6pm on Friday, November 20, all Worthington Parks and Recreation in-person programming will be cancelled starting November 21 and through the advisory period of 28 days.  The Worthington Community Center will remain open at this time and we will continue to evaluate the situation moving forward.  Beginning next week, Parks and Recreation staff will start the process of issuing refunds for all programming. The Worthington Community Center Fitness Floor is now open for limited hours

Playgrounds reopened June 10th.

The Worthington Parks & Recreation team has been working on a plan to safely resume and reopen some facilities and programming based on State protocols and safety guidelines. As facilities reopen, the safety measures outlined above as well as other sector and sports-specific State protocols will be in place. Each location will be signed with specific safety protocols that each user is responsible for following. It is important for you to abide by these guidelines so that all users are protected and safe, and the facilities can remain open for the community to enjoy.

Administration – Worthington Municipal Building

  • The public is encouraged to conduct business by phone, email or online whenever possible.
  • In-person operations will resume at the City Clerk and Mayor's Court counters.  
  • Garage sale permit applications are being accepted at the City Clerk's counter, but applicants are required to follow these State of Ohio Health Protocols.
  • The issuance of block party, right-of-way solicitation and door-to-door solicitation permits continue to be suspended.
  • The Finance Department counter remains closed to the public. Finance office services should be conducted either by phone or email.
  • Income Tax assistance can be obtained online from the Regional Income Tax Authority (RITA) at

Mayor’s Court - Worthington Municipal Building

  • In the interest of safety, please make every attempt to conduct business over the phone or by email.  
  • Effective May 1, 2020, all pending cases (including criminal and traffic arraignments, pre‐trials, trials, and hearings) have been continued until June 2, 2020 or later. A notice of a new court is being mailed no later than 5/15/20 to the address on file with the court.
  • If you do not receive your notice by 5/26/20 or have questions pertaining to your case, please contact the Clerk of Court office at 614-786-7351.

Service & Engineering

Weekday hours: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm

  • The public is encouraged to conduct business by phone, email or online whenever possible.
  • Because of limited space, the lobby is restricted to one person inside at a time.
  • If you are dropping off documents, please leave them in the designated drop box in the lobby. Staff will contact you when they are ready to be picked up if necessary.
  • Some public services that had been on hold will resume, such as street sweeping and repairs to storm basins, hydrants, streets, traffic signals.
  • Yard Waste Drop-off will be available between the hours of 7:30am to 11:00am weekdays until further notice.  Residents should pull up to the gate and call the Service office at 614-431-2425. You will be permitted in the gate after you have given your name and address. The gate will automatically open upon your departure.
  • Saturday Yard Waste Drop-off will take place the last Saturday of every month between 11am and 2pm until further notice, or through October when the program ends for the season.  
  • Service requests can be submitted online  
  • No vendors, consultants or contractors will be allowed without an appointment. All appointments will be conducted via phone or video conference when possible.

  • The public is encouraged to conduct business by phone, email or online whenever possible.
  • Appointments can be made if a person needs to conduct business in person.
  • Because of limited space, the lobby is restricted to one person inside at a time.
  • All applications and materials that must be dropped off in person must be placed in the marked drop box in the lobby. All applications will be processed the following business day.  
  • In most instances, in-person building inspections will not be conducted in occupied buildings. Some inspections may be conducted virtually. Please email for information about your specific circumstance.
