As we begin to move forward with programming, we are happy to announce the return of swim lessons to the Worthington Community Center. Classes are limited and will begin on Monday and Wednesday mornings for a three-week session.

  • The first session will begin on Monday, June 20 to Wednesday, July 13 
  • The second session will be from Monday, July 18 to Wednesday, August 3

Currently, level 1, 2, and 3 swim lessons for pre-school (ages 3-5) and youth (ages 6 - 14) are available. We are also organizing Parent/Child swim lessons along with higher-level stroke development classes that will return in the near future. Please use the swim lesson participation guide below to determine which class level is most appropriate for your child.

Swim Lesson Participation Guide

Participants ages 6 months - 2 years will register for Parent/Child regardless of skill level. (Coming Soon)

Parents/Guardians of participants ages 3 years - 5 years please answer the following questions: 

1. Can your child completely submerge their head under water? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 1 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, move to question #2. 

2. Can your child float face down in the water and on their back for 5 seconds? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 1 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, move to question #3. 

3. Can your child swim unassisted on their front and back for 3-5 feet.? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 1 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, register for Level 2 swim lessons.

Parents/Guardians of participants ages 6 years - 14 years old please answer the following questions: 

1. Can your child completely submerge their head under water 5 times? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 1 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, move to question #2. 

2. Can your child float on their back and front for 5 seconds? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 1 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, move to question #3. 

3. Can your child swim unassisted for 5 feet on their front and back? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 1 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, move to question #4. 

4. Can your child swim a front crawl for half of the lap pool (40 feet)? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 2 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, move to question #5. 

5. Can your child swim back crawl and elementary backstroke for half of the lap pool (40 feet)? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 2 swim lessons.  
  • Yes, move to question #6. 

6. Can your child tread water for 15 seconds in depths over their head? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 2 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, move on to question #7. 

7. Can your child swim front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke for one length of lap pool (75 feet)? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 3 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, move on to question #8. 

8. Can your child swim breaststroke for half the length of the lap pool (40 feet)? 

  • No, register for Youth Level 3 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, move on to question #9. 

9. Can your child tread water for 30 seconds in depths over their head?  

  • No, register for Youth Level 3 swim lessons. 
  • Yes, check back for more information on level 4+ swim lessons

If you have questions as to what level would be appropriate for your child, swim evaluations are available. No reservation is required for an evaluation. Check here for more information and a complete list of dates and times of our available levels.

Swim Lesson Registration 

Once you have established which level to register your child, please visit our registration site and complete all required information.

Safety is our first priority, so the WPRD staff reserves the right to withdraw or transfer your child from the registered course if he or she does not meet the prerequisites. To receive a refund for swim lessons a 48-hour notice of cancellation is required. 

BY SIGNING UP FOR THIS COURSE YOU ARE AGREEING THAT YOUR CHILD MEETS THE NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS. THE WPRD STAFF RESERVES THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW OR TRANSFER YOUR CHILD FROM THIS COURSE IF THEY DO NOT MEET THE PRE-REQUISITES.
