WIFA Book Discussion Featuring Japan

Wednesday, May 12, 2021

The WIFA Book Discussion group will meet via Zoom on Wednesday, May 12 to explore Japanese culture. Four titles are suggested and people can choose to read just one, or all.

The WIFA Book Group plans to meet via Zoom on Wednesday May 12 and the featured country is Japan. The format will be slightly different in that there are more titles to choose from. You may read all, or just one or two. There will be discussion related to Japanese culture and how it is reflected in the different books.  A couple of factors led to the decision to have a choice of multiple books.  Many of the books written by Japanese authors are available in limited quantities from Worthington Libraries so having more titles means more people can reserve copies through the library.  Also, the fourth book is not available from the library but it has been reviewed and was selected because of how it leads to more understanding of Japanese culture.  It is a simple book and if people are interested, it can be purchased at minimal cost online.

  1. The  Nakano Thrift Shop, by Hiromi Kawakami

  1. The Only Woman in the Room (A Memoir) by Beate Sirota Gordon

  1. A Little Book of Japanese Contentments by Erin Niimi Longhurst  - The fourth book is not available at the library but can be found at Amazon or
