A Salute to the 2020 Good Neighbor Award Winner

Good Neighbor Roedig 2020

In the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors, the City of Worthington is honoring 2020 Good Neighbor award winner Nicole Roedig, whose good deeds have helped others in the Worthington community. In the early days of the pandemic, Nicole responded to a shortage of face masks by making thousands of fabric face masks for adults and children in the Worthington community. She supplied homemade face masks to area food pantries, nursing homes, local businesses, and schools. She has provided custom face masks that are both comfortable and fun for children and has even made face masks with windows that allow lip-reading for hearing impaired students. Nicole also mobilized volunteers to donate fabric, prepare materials and sew the face masks, and helped establish the Worthington Mask Makers group to provide mask boxes to schools and other locations throughout Worthington.

She has used her talents, organizational skills and dedication to others to enhance the safety of the Worthington community, while also reminding us that we can be there for each other, even when we must be apart. The Worthington City Council and Worthington Community Relations Commission (CRC) recognized Nicole at the March 15, 2021 City Council meeting for exemplifying the term “good neighbor” because of her kindness and generosity toward her neighbors and community. Read the City Council Resolution

Individuals who make our neighborhoods and our community such a special place to live often go about their good deeds without any special recognition. The Community Relations Commission has presented the Good Neighbor Award each year since 1993 to thank members of the community who promote cooperation and goodwill throughout their neighborhood.
