When it snows, the City depends on its citizens and businesses to be helpful, responsible and aware of the need to remove all snow and ice from public sidewalks, including walks and ramps leading to a crosswalk. Under City ordinance, property owners are responsible for clearing their sidewalks of snow and ice within 12 hours of daylight after any snowfall or accumulation of ice. This provides safe passage to all persons and is especially important for children walking to school and others using the sidewalks in this walkable community. If the City receives a formal complaint, the Director of Service & Engineering must issue a warning. If the property owner does not clear the area within 24 hours after receiving the notice, the City will have the sidewalk cleared, and the property owner will be billed.If you have questions about this policy, or would like to report any property that is not compliant, please contact the Department of Service & Engineering at (614) 431-2425.
